Digital Literacy and Internet Safety Program
with Tainan Municipal Nanhua District Rueifong Elementary School

We organized and hosted weekly after-school digital literacy classes with students at Tainan Municipal Nanhua District Rueifong Elementary School, as they have limited opportunities to learn these skills at school. During these sessions, we first taught internet safety and then introduced basic computer science skills and coding concepts.

We collected 8 second-hand tablets and 1 second-hand laptop from students and teachers at Dominican International School. After repairing the devices, we donated them to Tainan Municipal Nanhua District Rueifong Elementary School, a school categorized as “極度偏遠” (extremely remote) by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. These devices will be shared by the students to access online educational resources at school.

After identifying students’ difficulties in English with the principal and English teachers at Tainan Municipal Nanhua District Rueifong Elementary School, we worked with the teachers to support and enhance their English curriculum. Together, we designed classroom activities that promote vocabulary retention and application. We also hosted weekly English classes to help students remember and use new vocabulary, and to build confidence in speaking through songs and storytelling.

We hosted a Christmas-themed two-day event at Tainan Municipal Nanhua District Rueifong Elementary School, where students showcased their progress from our weekly classes throughout the semester by performing an English song. We also organized a variety of fun English activities to assess their learning.

We collected 8 second-hand laptops from Taipei European School and donated them to Si Ji Elementary School of Da Tung Village, a school categorized as “極度偏遠” (extremely remote) by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education. The students will use these laptops to prepare for their annual participation in a vocabulary competition.

After learning about the teachers’ and principal’s concern that students lack exposure to urban environments and are therefore disinterested in exploring careers and educational paths, we organized an overnight field trip to Taipei, the capital city of Taiwan, for the students of Tainan Municipal Nanhua District Rueifong Elementary School. We guided them to explore Taipei and also visited Dominican International School, where the students practiced speaking English during the Spring Fair and showcased their progress from our weekly English classes over the past semester by performing a skit in English. With the help of many Dominican International School students, we also hosted English activities to assess their learning and progress.

We collected 8 second-hand laptops from Taipei European School and donated them to Tranan Qwasan Biru Experimental Elementary School, a school categorized as “極度偏遠” (extremely remote) by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and primarily composed of indigenous people belonging to the Atayal tribe (泰雅族). These devices will be shared by the students to access educational resources and enhance their classroom learning.

We collected 30 second-hand tablets from Taipei European School and donated them to Alishan Elementary and Junior High School, a school categorized as “極度偏遠” (extremely remote) by Taiwan’s Ministry of Education and primarily composed of indigenous people belonging to the Tsou tribe (鄒族). These devices will be distributed to students who lack electronic devices at home, enabling them to access educational resources outside of school.

We learned about the principal’s concern regarding the students’ lack of interest and motivation in learning English, so we hosted a week-long summer camp featuring fun English activities to reengage the students of Alishan Elementary and Junior High School. We also taught internet safety and basic computer science skills to guide the students to use the previously donated electronic devices safely and effectively.

We hosted a digital literacy workshop at Tranan Qwasan Biru Experimental Elementary School. During the workshop, we taught students internet safety to ensure they use the donated electronic devices responsibly. We also introduced basic computer science and coding skills to help them effectively use the devices to explore new skills and enhance their learning.

with Yeliou Elementary School

We organized and hosted a three-day English summer camp at Yeliou Elementary School, a school categorized as “偏遠” (remote) by Taiwan's Ministry of Education, to encourage students’ interest in learning English and help them gain confidence in speaking through fun and interactive activities. On the last day of the camp, we brought the students to the Taipei Astronomical Museum and the National Taiwan Science Education Center, where they explored urban environments while learning and practicing English in new settings. There, we facilitated English tours and hands-on activities to enhance their learning experience.

During the Speak With Confidence Summer Camp at Yeliou Elementary School, we donated 2 second-hand laptops from Taipei European School and 8 second-hand tablets from Dominican International School. These devices will be used by students to access educational resources and enhance their learning during their classes. To ensure that students use the donated devices safely and responsibly, we spent some time teaching internet safety through interactive discussions.

We collaborated with the ASUS Foundation to donate 120 refurbished laptops to three rural townships in Chiayi County. These electronic devices will be distributed by the township mayors to local schools in need.
